REQUIREMENTS - VGA based ATI products:
=====================================

Various modes require different hardware and memory. If the driver's
hardware and memory requirements are not met at load time, the driver
will exit to DOS and report an error. This error will also occur if
the card's monitor configuration is incorrect (i.e. card is configured
for a PS2 monitor and the selected resolution is higher than 640x480).

Please note that mode 65H (1024x768/16 paged type) is not supported.
Instead, mode 55H (1024x768/16 planar type) is supported. V3 VGA Wonders
do not support mode 55H. A V3 VGA Wonder card is identified by having V3
as the first two characters in the ROM version label. If this resolution
is required and you own a V3 VGA Wonder, ATI has a hardware upgrade
program in place. Please contact ATI Customer Support for details.

REQUIREMENTS - Accelerator based products:
=========================================

These drivers will work with either 512K or 1Mbyte of accelerator
memory. With 512K, 16 colors will be displayed. On 1Mbyte boards, 256
colors are displayed.

For 800x600 operation the 8514 ULTRA ROM version must be 1330111330
(v1.3) or newer. Please contact ATI Customer Support for ROM upgrade
details. The ROM version label is displayed in the boot banner on
system startup. This does not apply to the Graphics ULTRA/VANTAGE
products.

INSTALLATION:
============

Before proceeding through the installation steps, configure Windows
3.1 to use the Microsoft VGA driver for an ATI VGA-based product
or the Microsoft 8514/a driver for an ATI Accelerator-based product.

The drivers are organized in two groups - VGA and Accelerator. This
diskette provides an installation where Setup does not require this
diskette every time a new driver is selected. Any driver selection
within a group will cause Setup to copy all driver files within the
group to your Windows directories.

1) Exit Windows completely (not a DOS box).

2) Change to your Windows directory.

3) Place the ATI Supplemental Driver Disk into drive A:. Another
    source device may be used but is not recommended. The Windows 3.1
    Setup program may behave inconsistently if the source device is not
    drive A:. Work-arounds for these inconsistencies are covered below
    in step 6.

4) Type "SETUP" at the DOS prompt.

5) Select Display "Other (Requires disk provided by a hardware manuf.."

6) A list of ATI drivers will be displayed. Avoid selections that do
    not apply to your hardware. Select the desired screen resolution and
    press ENTER. Setup will copy files from the diskette into your
    Windows directories.

    If the filename of your driver selection exists in your Windows
    directories (possibility from a previous installation), Setup will
    ask if you wish to select the existing driver or a new one. Press
    ESC to select a new driver and force Setup to copy the new driver
    files to your Windows directories.

    If Setup asks for any Windows diskettes, enter the location of the
    ATI Supplemental Driver Disk so Setup continues to use this disk.

    If the ATI Supplemental Driver Disk is not in drive A:, the
    following analomies may occur:

    a) During the coping process (i.e. file VGALOGO.LGO), Setup may
       re-ask for the location of the ATI Supplemental Driver Disk.
       Re-enter its location and press ENTER.

    b) An error message may appear indicating that there is a problem
       with drive A: during the file copying process (i.e. file
       VGALOGO.LGO). Press ESC once after each error box appearance
       (two occur). Re-enter the location of the ATI Supplemental Driver
       Disk when asked by Setup and press ENTER.

7) If you wish to install both driver groups (only one has been
    installed so far), repeat steps 4 to 6 with the following
    exceptions:

    a) Skip step 5

    b) In step 6, select a driver from the other driver group (i.e. if
       you first selected an ATI VGA-based driver, select an Accelerator
       based driver this time)

8) The installation is now complete. To select a different ATI driver
    selection, run Setup, select the desired ATI driver selection.
    Setup will ask if you wish to use the existing driver (copied there
    by Setup in the previous steps) or select a new one. Select the
    EXISTING driver choice.

9) When Setup is complete, type "WIN" at the MS-DOS prompt to start
    Windows 3.1.

If installing the Windows 3.1 Crystal Font driver, the Crystal Fonts
must be installed from your original ATI Accelerator diskettes, using
the "INSTALL" program. Select "Install CRYSTAL Fonts" and follow the
instructions provided on-screen.

Notes - VGA based drivers:
=========================

The following drivers contain support for V3 VGA Wonder cards:
. 640x480/256 Small & Large font (512K)
. 800x600/16  Small Font (256K)
. 800x600/256 Small & Large font (512K)

For windowed DOS sessions, it is recommended that you select "High Graphics"
for the MSDOS and DOS application PIF files. It is required if you select
the 1024x768/16 color driver.

The following stock Microsoft drivers can be selected:
. VGA  (640x480/16 color)
. SVGA (800x600/16 color) - except for the V3 VGA Wonder

Notes - Accelerator based drivers:
=================================

. PowerPoint for Windows will cause a "General Protection Fault" if the
  Accelerator driver is run in a 4 bit per pixel mode. This happens on
  accelerators with 512K installed, and is not a problem with 1M.

. The Crystal Font driver supports both Crystal Fonts and Microsoft TrueType
  fonts, and is compatible with Adobe Type Manager (ATM).
